CHABAD EVENT TO SPREAD THE LIGHT

Menorah Parade will fight hate and darkness with love and light

Chabad Jewish Center of Greater S. Petersburg is excited to announce the 3rd annual Car Menorah Parade and Chanukah festival - this year with a new twist! On Thursday, December 2nd, a beautiful parade of cars and vans sporting car-top magnetic Menorahs will take to the streets of S. Petersburg, spreading the light and joy of Chanukah in downtown S. Pete.

Chanukah is a holiday which focuses on spreading the light, and sharing the miracles that happened so many years ago, and continue to happen today.

NEW FOR 2021 - This year, in the face of the continuous rise of anti-Semitism and the difficulties it causes, organizers have arranged for the parade to begin at the Florida Holocaust Museum. Participants will gather outside the museum and have their vehicles fitted with attractive lighted menorahs and with loudspeakers to share Chanukah music and joy.

In May of this year, the entire community was shocked to witness hate-filled graffiti on the wall of the museum! Shock turned to outrage, as people decried how such a thing could happen in 2021 in the United States of America! This cowardly act of anti-Semitic hate and vandalism united our communities, with many meaningful messages shared, a rally decrying hate, and more.

“We know that darkness is not swept away with a broom,” said Rabbi Alter Korf, Director of the Chabad Jewish Center and the event organizer, “rather, we will flood S. Pete with the light of the Menorah, the light of freedom, and this will make the whole world a brighter place.”

Now, with the holiday of Chanukah, Chabad Jewish Center has a powerful message to share, together with the Jewish community. Beginning the Menorah Parade at the Holocaust museum is a proclamation to the world that "We are here, we are proud, and Am Yisrael Chai!"

The parade creates a huge sense of Jewish pride and joy - both for those driving and those witnessing. The Holocaust Museum is a most fitting venue to begin this parade of strength, joy and pride.

The parade concludes with Chanukah in the City, a free event at North Straub Park, featuring a grand Menorah lighting, music, donuts and latkes, and an exciting aerialist show.
