Math and the Moral Compass: Always on Target? - 2/23/24

Did you get your math right?

Creative math used by Hamas and cease fire negotiators changes the biblical paradigm of an eye for an eye. The ancient equation of parity, of human lives being equal, is upended by the ratio of 1 to 30, as reported in the Wall Street Journal 2/22/24.

Then later in today’s post we’ll see how it’s twisted beyond recognition by the saintly wordsmiths at NPR.

WSJ: The talks come after Hamas said it was willing to lower its demands for the number of Palestinian prisoners it wants released in the deal to 3,000, according to Egyptian officials. The group had previously demanded all women and children prisoners along with prisoners sentenced to life terms. The group is still demanding the release of those serving long jail sentences in terrorism-linked cases, the officials said.

Can anyone explain the ratios of human life bandied about by Hamas, international mediators the media?

Let me see if I get this correctly.

Hamas may agree to release about 100- 140 hostages if Israel releases 3,000 Palestinians from jail. Some of the hostages may not be alive but they will be exchanged for jailed Palestinian ls who are ALIVE.

That’s about a ratio of 1 Israeli to 30 Palestinians.

Historically there have been agreed upon ratios that were worse.

But really!!!?????

Effectively this values ONE Israeli civilian kidnapped from their normal life to be equal to 30 people who were arrested for criminal actions?

This is a crazy equation.

1 Israeli Life = 30 Palestinians Lives

1  Innocent Life = 30 Criminal Lives

What ensuing crimes resulted in these Palestinians being released? History has shown remarkable recidivism among these once-and-future butchers. Consider the rat Sinwar who sharpened his rodent teeth in Israeli prisons.

And please. While we’re on topic… Don’t forget the craven Sky News reporter who in a November interview stunned Israeli spokesperson Elyon Levy and the civilized world, what’s left of it, by suggesting that these outrageous ratios “DEVALUED” Palestinian lives!!!

The head spins…..

And onto further news, NPR drives it home again with their latest dose of toxins on yesterday’s Morning Edition:

To save you the pain, and it is PAINFUL to listen to or read this inexcusable devaluing of innocent Israeli Jewish lives, I’ll just publish Sam’s angry letter that he wrote to our local NPR station, WUSF, and to the National office:

In response to:

How the dead serve as bargaining chips in the Israel-Hamas conflict”

How dare you compare the bodies of innocent hostages to barbaric terrorists?

Greg Myre’s report makes me cringe with horror and disgust. The “boiling” mother, the “cemetery of numbers,” the “necropolitics.” All of these all of these tags are part of a Palestinian narrative that obfuscates the truth of this situation. You are complicit in a narrative that delegitimizes Israel and the Jewish people on my tax dollar!

As always, Hamas counted on your collusion, and they took this report right to the bank. While NPR might consider this an unbiased report, for certainly that is the “tone,” it is one-sided in the extreme. You insist on calling a terrorist anything but a terrorist. “Militants?” Really? Your report never asks the central question, “is there a an ethical consequence for the taking of hostages?”

And I would ask your news service to consider: Is there a consequence to not acknowledging the diametric difference between a hostage and a terrorist?

You equate the bodies of innocents with the bodies of criminals.

How can your moral compass allow this?
