  • Speaker:               Ursula Szczepinska

Eva and Petr Ginz were teenagers when they were deported from Prague to Theresienstadt during the Holocaust. They had to learn to navigate the new reality that was strikingly different from the family life they had left behind. Petr and Eva kept diaries during their imprisonment. Those journals reflect their personalities and efforts to survive the overwhelming physical and emotional challenges. This program will show how diary excerpts help us learn about unique experiences of Jews during the Holocaust and translate statistics into individual lives.

Ursula Szczepinska is the director of education and research at The Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, responsible for teacher, student, and community education. She also conducts archival and historical research for Holocaust survivors as well as for exhibitions and other museum projects. She has helped survivors discover the fate of their loved ones during the Holocaust. Prior to joining the museum 19 years ago, she worked at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw and at the State Museum at Majdanek on site of the former Nazi concentration and death camp in Lublin, Poland.
