St. Augustine Jewish Historical Society - Early Crypto-Jews

12:00PM

America's Lost Crypto-Jews
NEW DATE for this popular event!

After postponing this high-demand event with Rabbi Merrill Shapiro in August, we are excited to announce it is rescheduled for Wednesday, December 20th, at 12:00pm Central.

St. Augustine, Florida, established in 1565 by Spanish colonizers, is the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the United States.

New research has revealed that among the 600 Catholic founders of St. Augustine were a number of people whose true identities had been lost to the horrors of the Spanish Inquisition.

Known as Crypto-Jews, Marranos, Conversos, Anusim, or New Christians, these “Hidden Jews” were the first people of Jewish heritage to arrive in the land that would become America.

Join us for a fascinating exploration of this hidden history.
